Historical Journaling: A Scrapbook Project
The global impact of the COVID-19 virus is history in the making. Nothing like this has occurred in our lifetime, and it will be important to document what life is like for us during this unique time. In 100 years from now people will rely on many sources of information to learn about what happened throughout the COVID-19 pandemic.
Your job is to create a COVID-19 historical scrapbook-style journal (think time capsule). You will put together a collection of documents, items and information of what is happening in your life right now to communicate with future generations. This non-traditional form of journaling, a historical scrapbook-style journal, allows students to be creative. They may choose to reflect on each day through the use of words, drawings, pictures/photos, etc.
Note: This assignment will be ongoing. It is important you add a little be every day.
Prompts:
Extension:
Check-out the 'Optional Activities' page for a PDF time capsule document. You may wish to complete and add this to your ongoing journal. Or, look through it for inspiration of what you might want to journal about!

Reading
I encourage you to keep up the minimum of twenty minutes of reading each day. Have your child practice reading aloud and ask questions/make connections as you read together. In addition, you can record new and/or unknown works to make your own dictionary. Record the definitions and try putting the new words into a sentence.
Making Connections:
Text-to-Self (How does what you are reading connect to your life?)
Text-to-World (How does what you are reading connect to things happening in the world?)
Text-to-Text (How does what you are reading connect to other things you have read?)
